Why is there no answer to this interesting question here?

There are a number of projects that give even less points.

I'm more curious why the points awarded are so random, most work units take roughly the same time but the points awarded vary wildly, this makes it impossible to tune your system for maximum performance or efficiency.

Some people don't run CPU benchmarks, you'll see them with an even 1 billion ops like these PCs:
Measured floating point speed 1 billion ops/sec
Measured integer speed 1 billion ops/sec

https://rnma.xyz/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=16049
https://rnma.xyz/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=16326
https://rnma.xyz/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=16129
https://rnma.xyz/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=16396

When they are your wingman you'll get much lower credit (like 1/4 normal credit) causing the highly variable amounts.

Credit is still low for CreditScrew projects though.

Ah, that explains a lot!! I always wondered why whenever I set a new host, the credits were so low for each task, then after some time it gets normal. When I set a host, I eventually run the CPU benchmark, but I've never connected the dots. Thanks.

There are threads about credit between projects over on the BOINC fora. In theory the same amount of computing power used should yield similar credit between projects. Some projects give artificially high credit scores. CPDN gives slightly higher credit for some newer apps that can require as much as 8GB RAM/core. Though CPDN is one of the lower scoring projects and also one which often has large gaps in work availability. Bottom line is I crunch for the science not for credits which I see as more of a help to make sure things are working as they should.
